PURPOSE:To obtain an optical recording medium having high sensitivity and capable of being subjected to rewriting a large number of times, by using a heat- resistance organic matter for forming a protective layer. CONSTITUTION:A glass plate or a plastic base such as a PMMA plate is used as a base 1. A heat-resistant organic matter layer 2 is provided on one side of the base 1. The organic matter must have such heat resistance that it is not thermally cracked at temperatures not higher than the melting point of a chalcogenide material constituting a recording film. Guanine and copper phthalocyanine are particularly preferable as a monomolecular (low-molecular) material. A chalcogenide film 3 is provided on the protective layer. It is necessary for the chalcogenide material to be reversibly transformed between a crystal state and an amorphous state. A protective layer 4 is provided on the chalcogenide film 3. The layer 4 can be provided by using the organic matter used for the protective layer 2. |
