Novel herbicidally active amidinoazoles of the formula in which R1 represents an optionally substituted radical from the series comprising alkyl, aralkyl, aryl and heteroaryl, R2 represents an optionally substituted and/or optionally fused six-membered aromatic heterocyclic radical containing at least one nitrogen atom and Az represents an optionally substituted azole radical, that is to say a five-membered aromatic heterocyclic radical containing at least one nitrogen atom, or metal salts or strong acid adducts thereof.
