发明名称 THERMAL TRANSFER MEDIUM
摘要 PURPOSE:To enable images with high image quality to be transferred onto a transfer recording paper irrespective of the surface conditions of the paper, by using a polyvinyl alcohol resin having specified polymerization degree and saponification degree as a binder in an ink layer. CONSTITUTION:A polyvinyl alcohol resin having a polymerization degree of not more than 500 and a saponification degree of 20-95mol% is used as a binder of an ink layer, in a thermal transfer medium comprising an ink layer on a base. By this, images can be transferred with high image quality irrespective of the surface conditions of the transfer recording paper. If the polymerization degree is more than 500, the resin is not easily melted by heating. If the saponification degree is more than 95%, the resin is thermally decomposed, whereas if the saponification degree is less than 20%, the melting point of the resin is too low. When a thermal head 10 is operated to generate heat, the ink layer 7 at that part is melted or softened, and shows adhesiveness owing to the resin. Where the surface of the transfer recording paper 9 is rough, the ink of the ink layer 7 is adhered to projected parts of the paper 9. The ink facing recessed parts of the paper 9 is also transferred onto the paper 9 together with the ink adhered to the projected parts, since a bonding force acts between the ink facing the recessed parts and the ink adhered to the projected parts.
