In order to save space and give reliable lateral dispensing of the bars of material to be machined, the stacker comprises, in a space determined by uprights (103, 104), a belt (109) in the shape of a U which receives superimposed bars (110). Two similar belts are located along the stacker. Pulleys (111) wind one end of each belt so as to decrease the U-shape of the latter, and the bars of material to be machined are progressively brought to the top where they are dispensed laterally, passing over a longitudinal member of the front upright (105, 107) in order to come onto an inclined plane leading to a part of the feed device (6) which, at that moment, is open to allow the bar to enter. <IMAGE>
