In a device to compensate for the wheel contact area lateral forces on a spring strut of a wheel suspension for motor vehicles, with a standard unit, pivoted on at least one lower wheel suspension element, with a telescopic shock absorber and a wheel carrier, which standard unit is supported at the upper end on the body of the motor vehicle, a U-type bellows being arranged around the shock absorber as supporting spring element in such a way that the spring force runs in a resultant counteracting the lateral forces, this resultant is directly supported on the body of the motor vehicle and the damper bearing is independent of this support. At the same time, the U-type bellows or the spring element may be supported by means of a receiving bracket, inelastically connected to the body, whilst the shock absorber is elastically connected either indirectly or directly to the receiving bracket.
