An installation for generating process steam by means of solar energy with direct evaporation and circulation of the heat transfer medium by natural convection, with a solar collector which has a boiling pipe for generating and carrying off the steam to the consumer as well as, connected thereto, a supply pipe for the heat transfer medium, such as e.g. water, to be evaporated. The purpose of the invention is to design an installation of this type in such a manner that the air quantity contained in the circuit before starting can be stored in such a manner that the required operating pressure is kept in the installation at different capacity. To this end, the creation of an underpressure on cooling of the installation is to be prevented, that is to say it is to be possible for the stored air quantity to flow back to the collector or boiling pipe again. This is achieved by a collecting container 111 for the heat transfer medium, the liquid level 113 of which communicates with that 118 in the collector 101, the upper inlet pipe 114 being connected to the steam outlet of the collector 101 and the lower outlet 115 to the inlet 116 of the return run pipe 106. The collecting container can be connected both in series with the consumer and parallel to it. <IMAGE>
