SOLUTION: In a paper sheet carrying device having paper sheet tip positioning regist roller pairs 3 arranged in the middle of a paper sheet carrying passage, carrier roller pairs 5 arranged on the upstream side of the regist roller pairs 3 and a driving mechanism to position a side surface of a paper sheet P by moving the regist roller pairs 3 in the perpendicular direction Y to the paper sheet carrying direction X, nip force in the carrier roller pairs 5 is weakened on the periphery of the paper sheet more than a central position of the paper sheet.
