The object of the rainwater store according to the water tower principle with remote-controllable filling mechanism is to catch the rainwater, which is carried away via a gutter and a downpipe, at as great a height as possible, immediately below the gutter if possible, and to store it and dispense it again as required. Catching of the water is effected by means of a kind of rain valve which can be opened and closed from the ground and which diverts the rainwater from the downpipe into a container having an overflow. In order to be able to store substantial amounts of water, a plurality of containers can be connected in series. By means of a water-pipe connected to one of the containers and leading downwards, at whose end there is a water tap, the water can be drawn off under control from the ground. The hydrostatic pressure prevailing at the end of the water-pipe even makes it possible to draw off the water by means of a hose.
