摘要 In order to convert thermal energy into mechanical energy, in the case of a heat engine having external heat input a differential piston is moved up and down in a cylinder between two accumulators by means of two open or closed thermodynamic cyclic processes of a gaseous working medium which run simultaneously but in opposite directions. This movement is converted by means of a scotch-yoke mechanism into a rotary movement for the purpose of tapping force. A control piston which varies the working pressure as a function of load in conjunction with the change in heat input is used to control the output. A high efficiency is achieved by means of heat exchange between the expanded working medium and the working medium to be compressed during the cyclic process and by utilising the residual energy of the expelled working medium and of the remaining exhaust gases from the heat input in a working turbine. When the heat engine is used as a vehicle drive, working medium which is excessively compressed, e.g. during sliding operation, can be collected in an additional accumulator and reused as required. It is possible in this case to achieve braking which is free from loss and wear. Complete freedom from exhaust gas and pollutants is yielded in conjunction with a closed cycle and the use of the suitable heat input.
