A sliding bearing, made up of a sliding-bearing shells 21, 22 or in the form of a bearing bush, is provided with groove-like depressions in the load-bearing layer only in a circumferential area 25 of its sliding surface which covers the main loading area H (area of maximum compressive loading in operation) and is smaller than half of the circumference of the sliding bearing. If the sliding bearing is formed by two sliding bearing shells 21 and 22, one sliding bearing shell 21 can have a conventional three-material or two-material structure, while the other sliding bearing shell has the circumferential area 25 with slot-like depressions in the load-bearing layer. This circumferential area 25 can occupy 90 DEG to 170 DEG , preferably 100 DEG to 150 DEG , of the angle alpha formed in relation to the centre line 28 of the bearing.
