The invention relates to a splash-guard device on spectacle-glass edge-grinding machines with a grinding wheel mounted in the machine lower part and with a machine upper part which carries the spectacle glass between two coaxial half-shafts, can pivot up and down about a horizontal axis, is adjustable during grinding and which consists of a hood covering the glass and the grinding wheel during the grinding operation. A reliable covering of the grinding wheel and of the spectacle glass is to be achieved by constructively simple and easily operable means. For this purpose, the box-shaped hood (9) is arranged on the machine lower part (1) so as to be pivotable about an axis (19) parallel to the grinding-wheel axis, and the side walls (13, 44) of the box-shaped hood (9) have slots (20), through which the half-shafts (6, 7) pass in order to hold the spectacle glass (B). <IMAGE>
