PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject resin having a low formaldehyde content and a low formaldehyde generation rate by adding a specific antioxidant and specifying the residual formaldehyde content and the formaldehyde generation rate. SOLUTION: This polyester resin comprises (A) an aromatic polyester resin containing (B) an antioxidant having a free radical group-scavenging action (an action capable of removing free radical groups), and has a residual formaldehyde content of <=150 ppb, a formaldehyde generation rate (290 deg.C) of <=15 ppb/ min and preferably an intrinsic viscosity of >=0.7 dl/g. The resin is preferably polyethylene terephthalate, polybutylene terephthalate, a copolyethylene terephthalate, or the like, each of which has an isophthalic acid amount of <=15%. The resin is obtained by adding the component B to the melted component A and further subjecting the mixture to a solid polycondensation reaction in an inert gas atmosphere. |
