Mounted on an auxiliary frame (4) is a pressure roller (3), which can be pivoted in the plane of the belt by an actuator (6). Arranged on the auxiliary frame (4) is a pivotable belt-edge sensor (5) with two sensing members (24, 25) bearing laterally against the belt edges (27, 28). Provided on the auxiliary frame (4) and on the belt-edge sensor (5) are means (10, 12) by which a lateral deflection of the sensing members (24, 25) can be determined. If the belt (1) deviates from its set position, the sensing members (24, 25) are also deflected in this direction. On account of the displacement of the sensing members (24, 25), determined by the means (10, 12), the pressure roller (3) is pivoted by the actuator (6), so that the belt (1) is guided asymptotically into its corrective position. Only very small forces of reaction act between the sensing members (24, 25) and the belt edges (27, 28), so that wearing of the belt (1) is avoided. <IMAGE>
