The desk has a support (20) which is intended to accommodate the visual display unit (21) and an area (7) intended to accommodate a control keyboard. The support (20) can be lowered and removed from an operating position into a storage space (5) in the desk. When the support (20) and the visual display unit (21) have been lowered, the storage space (5) and the keyboard-accommodating surface (7) can be covered and exposed by means of a movably mounted plate (4). This desk can, by means of a few simple movements, be converted by hand from a visual display unit workstation into a conventional workplace. <IMAGE>
