During the explosive forming of workpieces in a water tank (1) shock waves are generated and, via the foundation (3), these produce troublesome shaking in the surrounding area. In order to avoid or attenuate such shaking, the shock waves are damped by a fixed, multi-layer gas-bubble cushion (7) before introduction into the foundation, and the gas bubbles are enclosed compressibly in elastic, gas-tight envelopes. <IMAGE>
