PURPOSE:To perform thermal transfer recording with high transfer rate and high quality even on a recording medium having a very rough surface, by fitting an ultrasonic vibrating means to a back member disposed on the back side of a recording medium oppositely to a thermal recording head, and applying ultrasonic energy to an ink ribbon and the recording medium. CONSTITUTION:A horn 16 for transmitting vibration from an ultrasonic vibrator 15 is fixed to the back side of the back member 10, and the member 10 and the ultrasonic vibrating means 17 are disposed on a back movable base 24 moved along the back side of the recording medium 11 simultaneously with and at the same velocity as a head fixing base 18. The thermal recording head 13 comprises a surface layer 10 provided with a row of resistance heating elements and electrode wirings on the surface of a ceramic substrate 14, and the ink ribbon 12 and the recording medium 11 are clamped between the layer 19 and the member 10. Ultrasonic vibration is efficiently applied to the back member 10, the ultrasonic energy is transmitted to the ribbon 12 and the member 11 clamped between the head 13 and the member 10, and a major portion of the energy is absorbed therein. |
