METHOD FOR REMOVING SE FROM MOLTEN STEEL

PURPOSE:To manufacture a low Se steel having superior weldability by bringing a molten steel into contact with CaO-base slag having a specified basicity to refine the molten steel. CONSTITUTION:A molten steel is brought into contact with slag to transfer Se from the molten steel to the slag by a slag-metal reaction. At this time, CaO-base slag having >=1 basicity [(%CaO)/(%SiO2)] and <=1.5wt% total concn. of Fe is used as the slag. the amount of Se in the molten steel can be reduced to <=about 2.3 by refining the molten steel once.
