In accordance with the invention, the halting/shock-absorbing device for transported objects comprises a shock-absorbing cylinder (4), a halting cylinder (6) and an "L"-shaped lever (11) which is connected via an articulated lever (9) to the piston of the halting cylinder (6). The two cylinders (4, 6) are respectively connected to halt/working lines (17, 18) and resetting lines (21, 23) via which working fluid is fed to the cylinders. With the aid of the device according to the invention, objects such as bottles (2) or similar containers which are being transported on a conveying device can be halted automatically without reducing the speed of the objects on grounds of safety before they are halted. <IMAGE>
