A method and a device for monitoring, for example, objects exhibited in shops or museums, such as radio sets, computer systems, pictures and the like, in which arrangement at least two reflector fields (5, 6) having different reflection factors for incident preferably identical energy beams (12) are applied onto the object (1) to be monitored, which reflector fields are irradiated by preferably in each case one energy transmitter (11), and the energy reflected to preferably in each case one energy receiver (13, 14) in different intensity from the reflector fields is preferably continuously measured and a change in the energy is used for triggering an alarm signal. During the monitoring of the object, the energy receivers (13, 14) and the reflector fields (5, 6) are arranged and/or connected with respect to one another in such a manner that energy beams (12) emitted by the energy transmitters (11) are reflected in different intensity from the reflector fields (5, 6) to the energy receivers (13, 14). <IMAGE>
