A combustion furnace or heating boiler has, in the lower region of the filling shaft, a so-called rotary grate which consists of at least two parallel abrasive rollers which are spaced apart from one another, run essentially horizontally and can be driven in opposite directions and of at least one intermediate drivable worm conveyor in such a manner that, with a preferably intermittent operation of the rotary grate, a solid combustion residue layer in the filling shaft can be supplied by abrasion to a downstream disposal container.
