The invention relates to a process for the production of a non-toxic plastic foam article which comprises converting the plastic, which forms a viscous solution with a solvent, into the desired shape and subjecting it to a precipitation bath which is homogeneously miscible with the solvent. This process is simple and allows the foam article to be varied by varying the process parameters.
