发明名称 ION EXCHANGE MEMBRANE TYPE ELECTROLYTIC CELL
摘要 PURPOSE:To decrease a voltage for electrolysis and to reduce the electric power consumption for electrolysis in the stage of electrolyzing an aq. alkali chloride soln. in an ion exchange membrane type electrolytic cell by providing fine ruggedness on the surface of the ion exchange membrane and disposing a cathode and anode on the surfaces thereof in contact therewith. CONSTITUTION:Fine ruggedness 2, 3 having 0.01-50mu average depth or height are formed by about 10<3>-10<15> pieces for each 1cm<2> of membrane area on the cathode side surface or cathode side and anode surfaces of the ion exchange membrane 1 in the stage of using the ion exchange membrane type electrolytic cell for electrolysis of the aq. NaCl soln., etc. The thickness of the roughened surface layer of the film formed by such ruggedness is made smaller than the thickness of the remaining layer of the membrane 1. The ion exchange membrane to be formed with such fine ruggedness is made of a fluoropolymer having a cation exchange group such as carboxylic acid group or sulfonic acid group. The meshed anode 4 and cathode 5 each made of an expanded metal having 30-90% opening rate are attached on the ion exchange membrane 1 so as to contact with the rugged surfaces thereof. Since the space between both electrodes 4 and 5 is small, the smaller voltage for electrolysis is required and the electric power consumption for electrolysis is reduced.
