A pressing device for pressing together of empty packages, such as cans, barrels, bottles and the like is disclosed, which has in a casing a pressing chamber which can be sealed by means of a flap, in which pressing chamber a pressing plate is arranged so as to be displaceable pneumatically against a restoring spring. The pressing plate is advanced into the pressing position by means of a bag which is arranged in the casing and can be inflated by means of compressed air, it being possible to fill the bag with compressed air as soon as the flap has been closed. When the pressing process has been completed, the pressing plate automatically returns to its initial position, so that it can prepare for and initiate the next pressing process. The compressed packages are collected in a drawer, which must be periodically emptied, so that the compressed waste material can be sold for recycling purposes.
