PURPOSE:To automatically accurately detect an ignition angle as an electric signal based on the reading result of a CCD camera by a method wherein a timing mark on a pulley secured to the crank shaft of an internal combustion engine is read by scanning the CCD camera in synchronism with an ignition timing. CONSTITUTION:When an internal combustion engine 12 is of, for example, 4-cycle 4-cylinder type and driven at the number of idle revolutions, an ignition pulse is outputted from a distributor 21 on each occasion of 1/2 rotation of a crank shaft 15, and thereby the pulse is inputted to a CCD controller 19 and a computing device 20. Scanning of a CCD camera 14 is performed by a CCD controller 19 one time simultaneously with ignition of the ignition plug of the internal combustion engine 12. In which case, if a timing mark 17 is positioned on a CCD scanning line 18, the position is inputted from the CCD camera 14 to the computing device 20 through the CCD controller 19. This computes an ignition angle based on the position with the aid of the computing device 20. |
