The device comprises, in combination, a movable member carrying means 5 for gripping the sliver, which means can move parallel to the creel table, in order to be led as far as the drawing-off roller 10 of the can where the breakage or exhaustion has occurred, to grip the end of the sliver 4, to bring it to the entry of the preparation machine 6 and to release it there in order to permit its reintroduction into the lap, which reintroduction is facilitated by means 12 acting on the end of the sliver. <IMAGE>
