Packages formed by joining two wall portions 1, 2 made from a tearable sheet material are disclosed. The wall portions are joined along one or more boundary lines 17, 18 between the package wall 28 and peripheral margin portions 19, 20. Two portions of the boundary line form an acute angle which embraces part of the marginal portion. Each marginal portion is partially severed along a sever line 22, 23 that does not intersect the boundary line. One end of the sever line lies between the boundary line portions forming the acute angle. The package may be opened by tearing along a sever line.
