The rolling element cage for a linear guideway consists of a cage rail (6) with apertures (7) which are provided for the rolling elements (2) and have a cross-section which is smaller than would be required to allow the rolling elements (2) to pass through completely. To achieve this, lugs (8) which project into the apertures (7) are provided. The cage rail (6) consists of a box profile of one-piece design. Two apertures are provided in opposite profile walls of the cage rail (6) for each rolling element (2). The lugs (8) are designed to be elastic traversely to the plane of the lugs and to flex to an extent which allows the rolling elements (2) to be pressed into the cage rail (6) from outside through the apertures (7) - the lugs yielding during this process - and, having been pushed completely into the cage rail, to be held by the lugs (8), which spring back. <IMAGE>
