This device for the simple and effortless thawing of iced-up glass surfaces in cars in winter conditions permits a heating element which is accommodated in a small insulated housing and heated up by a propane gas flame to approximately 100 DEG C to transmit its considerable heat via a heat transmission medium to a contact profile which protrudes out of the end side of the housing and has an area of approximately 60 mm<2> and has a semi-hard, sponge-like quality and to act from there directly on the existing ice coating in that a rapid and thorough thawing takes place by intensive heat contact with the ice coating and simultaneous sliding contact against the glass. Residual melt water can be wiped away with the aforesaid sponge profile. The thawing device has a pressurised gas container which serves at the same time as a handle and has a content of approximately 100 ml from which the flame to be fired by means of piezoignition can be supplied for a large number of applications.
