An apparatus for moving heavy loads, e.g. parts of a structure, scaffolding or the like, consists of two clamping devices (A) and (B) which can be moved in alternating cycle by means of hydraulic cylinder/piston units (not shown) relative to a draw means (1) and can be fixed relative to the latter. In this arrangement, both the draw means (1) and the clamping devices (A, B) are provided with means corresponding to one another for producing a positive-locking connection for transmitting the forces occurring when the load is moving or being held. These means can, for example, consist of clamping lugs (16) which are attached to the draw means (1) and with which mating pieces (17), each having a corresponding recess (18), can be brought into positive-locking connection. <IMAGE>
