A display unit comprises a light source (11), a beam splitter (7) comprising a sheet of titanium coated glass, a layer of retroreflective material (10), a clear PERSPEX (RTM) shelf (8) and a stencil (13) so arranged that, in use, light passes through said stencil (13) from the light source and is reflected by the titanium coated glass onto the retroreflective screen. The layer of retroreflective material (10) diverts the incident light through 180 degrees so that when a user looks towards the retroreflective material (10) the image appears suspended in space. The stencil (13) is larger than the clear PERSPEX (RTM) shelf (8) and consequently has an undulant surface which causes the image itself to be undulant and appear in three dimensions. A cranked shaft (17) is attached to the stencil (13) and is driven in rotation by a motor (16). As the shaft (17) rotates the undulations in the stencil (13) alter thereby causing the image to move. |
