PURPOSE:To selectively prepare beta-acetoxystyrene, by forming a catalyst by supporting one component selected from bismuth, manganese, vanadium and tellurium and palladium by a carrier. CONSTITUTION:After one promotor element component selected from bismuth, manganese, vanadium and tellurium was supported by a carrier such as activated carbon, a silica gel, silica/alumina or alumina, the supported carrier is baked in the presence of oxygen or oxygen-containing gas. Subsequently, said carrier is allowed to support palladium and subjected to reducing treatment to obtain a catalyst for the liquid phase synthesis of beta-acetoxystyrene. The amount of each of palladium and the promotor supported by the carrier is usually 0.01-30% by wt. of the carrier as an element and the ratio of the promotor element to palladium in the catalyst is pref. 0.01-20g atom to 1g atom of palladium. |
