摘要 PURPOSE:To obtain the titled catalyst excellent in liquefying capacity and durability, by forming a first support layer comprising alumina and a second support layer comprising titanium oxide to the surface of a catalyst carrier base material and further supporting rhodium by the second support layer. CONSTITUTION:A slurry containing alumina is adhered to the surface of a base material such as a monolithic carrier base material and baked to form a first support layer (a). A second support layer (b) comprising titanium oxide is formed to the surface of said support layer (a) and an aqueous solution of a catalytic metal containing rhodium such as rhodium chloride is further infiltrated in the surface of said second layer (b) and dried to support the catalyst metal. Because thus obtained objective catalyst is prevented from the lowering in catalytic capacity and excellent in durability, said catalyst is extremely useful as one for purifying exhaust gas. Further, it is desirable that the rhodium support amount of the first support layer is less than that of the second support layer. Furthermore, a method for adhering an aqueous catalyst metal solution containing rhodium and a slurry containing hydroxide of titanium or the like to the surface of the first support layer before baking is also desirable.
