The present invention relates to a digital broadcasting system and method. A digital broadcasting transmitting apparatus transmits an audio background screen using an idle band of a broadcasting channel, and a terminal receives the audio background screen and displays the audio background screen on a display device when playing digital audio broadcasting. According to the present invention, it is possible to positively and effectively advertise broadcast programs and deliver various kinds of events and commercials through a background screen of an audio channel of digital broadcasting.
