PURPOSE:To elevate the array density of a detector while reducing the number of electronic circuits at the rear stage, by arranging a scintillation detector and a photoelectric multiplier in a specified optical positional relationship to remove restriction due to the calibre of the multipliers. CONSTITUTION:A number of scintillation detectors CD 11 and 12... are arranged in a ring form to be separated into two groups optically independent of each other. For example, photoelectric multipliers 21 and 22 are optically coupled to the group of the DC 11 and 12 to introduce light into the multiplier 21 only from the CD 11 with a mask 3 while lights of the CD 11 and 12 is introduced into the multiplier 22. Then, the output of the multiplier 22 is introduced to an analyzer 4 and a timing signal is sent to a circuit 5 only when the energy signal pulse height is within a specified window range to detect the coincidence with a timing signal from the analyzer. The output of the multiplier 21 is checked for the presence thereof with a comparator 6 and a generation circuit 7 sends a signal indicating the position of position according to the output thereof and the output of the circuit 5.
