Process for producing a magnetic recording material

The invention relates to a process for producing a binder-containing magnetic recording carrier which, for a defined system, is compatible with respect to the memory characteristics. The process is characterised in that uniaxial pigments of high remanence are used and that the liquid magnetic dispersion is aligned in a magnetic alignment system with a perpendicular, alternating, monotonously decreasing field structure in such a way that a recording carrier having a relatively low BR/BS value is obtained, which at the same time has very good surface property. To enhance the signal level, a second layer, whose magnetic pigment can have a uniaxial or multiaxial anisotropy, can be coated on top of this recording carrier.
