PURPOSE:To prepare a high purity stevioside sweetening, economically and without environmental pollution, by passing an extract of leaves of Stevia through a column packed with a non-polar synthetic adsorbent resin, washing the resin with an aqueous solution of slaked lime, and eluting the adsorbed substance with a solvent. CONSTITUTION:Stevioside sweetening composed of a glycoside having a steviol skeleton, is separated and purified, by extracting leaves of Stevia rebaudiana Bartoni with water or hot water, treating the extract with a non-polar synthetic adsrobent resin, washing the resin with an aqueous solution of slaked lime, and eluting the stevioside from the resin with a hydrophilic organic solvent or hydrous hydrophilic organic solvent. The synthetic adsorbent resin is pref. a rigid, porous, non-polar polymer having a macro-network structure, obtained by the copolymerization of styrene with divinyl benzene. |
