The invention relates to a method and device for controlling and checking the power of heating panels, in which the power or distribution of the power level set in each case is displayed as a coloured analog image. A particular power or power level is associated with a particular colour or colour mixture. Using such heating panels, accurate and fast heating-up of the material to be heated is possible in accordance with a particular temperature field. The device for carrying out the method essentially consists of a colour monitor (11) which is connected to a controller (9) with graphics processor via an operating keyboard (10). The heating radiators (4) are connected to the controller (9) via the connecting socket (6). A light pen (13) is provided for interactively determining the block of heating radiators (4), the heating power of which is to be changed. A data medium (12) is arranged for storing the intensity values of the heating power which have been determined and set. The analog coloured image of the field of power characteristics can be easily recognised as a colour field displayed in colours and colour contrasts; deviations can be immediately detected. <IMAGE>
