The present invention relates to a mechanical aid enabling a worker to lift a ceiling panel by himself and to fix it with accuracy. The machine comprises a base 1 fixed to retractable feet 15 provided with castors 3. The base is surmounted by a fixed frame, formed by uprights 4, crosspieces 19 and 21 and a U-shaped upright 5 in which an endless screw 6 is located. This screw, which is rotated by a crank 7, drives a lifting finger 14. A frame 8 carrying the support plate may slide inside the fixed frame, which is held in the vertical position by the crosspiece 19, the stop-pieces 18 and the spring bolt 17 of the lifting finger 14. Opening the spring bolt 17 releases the carrying frame which, rotating on the spindles 13, brings the support plate to the loading position. <IMAGE>
