A roll stand with two independent roll housings (1) which are connected to one another by means of distance pieces and are set up releasably on a base frame (8). The roll housings (1) accommodate the chocks (2) of the rolls (3). Supporting frames (15) for the rolling fittings are secured on the roll housings (1). The roll housings (1) can be displaced independently of one another on the base frame (8) in a direction parallel to the axes of the rolls (3) and can also be fixed on the said frame. In this arrangement, it is the supporting frames (15) of the roll fittings which form the distance pieces and these take up the side forces which occur during rolling. <IMAGE>
