<p>An excavator has a lip adapted to extend horizontally during digging and an adapter having upper and lower legs flanking the lip and having a nose portion projecting forwardly of the lip during digging. Vertically aligned openings are provided in the legs and lip for receipt of a locking device. The leg openings are spaced from the rear ends of the legs. A locking device is removably mounted in the openings and includes vertically extending, spaced apart wedge and C-clamp members. The locking device further provides a rocking action of the adapter relative to the lip. This is achieved by springs interposed between the wedge and C-clamp members. The spring constitute the only bearing contact when the adapter is not under load.</p> |
