PURPOSE:To facilitate cleaning after using and contrive energy saving upon use by a method wherein a heat-permeable body is provided with a distance from a combustion unit at the center of a grate, having an opening usable for combustion exhaust gas passageway and proper pieces of protuberances, so as to be substantially flush with the upper surface of the grate. CONSTITUTION:The combustion unit 10 is formed between the combustion plate 9 of a radiation burner 5 and the heat-permeable body 2. The grate 11 is provided with the heat-permeable body 2, arranged at the center thereof, and openings 12, usable for the radial combustion exhaust gas passageway, at the periphery thereof while the heat-permeable body 2 is provided with several pieces of protuberances 15 at the upper surface 14 thereof and is put on a ceiling plate 16 so that the upper surface 13 of the heat-permeable body 2 is substantially flush with the upper surface 14 of the grate. The substance 18 to be heated is heated directly by radiation heat 522, passed through the heat-permeable body 2, while the whole of bottom surface and side surface of the substance 18 to be heated are heated directly by the flow 21 of combustion exhaust gas. Further, heat exchange between the grate 11 as well as the heat-permeable body 2 and the flow 12 of combustion exhaust gas is effected and the substance 18 to be heated may also be heated by the heat transmission through the protuberances 15.
