PURPOSE:To prevent malfunction, etc., securely by stopping pulse oscillation from a rotary encoder in synchronism with the moving operation of a tone arm stylus to the final groove of a record disk and then detecting the end of reproduction. CONSTITUTION:The stylus atop of the toner arm 4 engages with the spiral groove of the record disk 3 during the reproduction of the record disk 3 to detect the tip part of the tone arm 4 rotating and moving toward the center of the record disk 3, and the base end shaft supporting part of the tone arm 4 is moved linearly in the same direction to follow up said movement. This linear tracking type record player detects the stylus atop of the tone arm 4 moving to the final circular groove of the record disk 3 while a rotary encoder 8 generating electric pulses in synchronism with the follow-up movement of the base end shaft supporting part of the tone arm 4 generates no pulses for a specific time. Consequently, the end of reproducing operation is detected securely without reference to the kind of the record disk 3 to prevent troubles such as malfunction, etc.
