PURPOSE: Provided is an artificial soil which is excellent in air permeability, drainage and water-maintenance, and which show a substantially same color as that of natural soil and does no deteriorate in its capability with lapse of time, and which can be reduced in production cost and contribute to recycling of resources and environmental problems. CONSTITUTION: The artificial soil consists of 50-99% of granular porous glass and 1-50% of sparsely dissolving or already aged organics. The granular porous glass has a particle size of 2-50 mm, the bulk density measured when charged with the pressure of 0.5 kg/cm¬2, of 0.30-0.40mg/m¬3, the porosity of 60-85% measured as water content when core is saturated with water, vapor phase of 25-70% measured when the core saturated with water is naturally drained. The bark of a tree or coconut dust is used as an organics. Also, waste glass can be used as the glass, therefore the production cost of artificial soil is reduced.
