PURPOSE:To produce an alcohol in high efficiency and selectivity, economically on an industrial scale, remarkably suppressing the corrosion caused by aromatic sulfonic acid, by hydrating an olefin in the presence of an aromatic sulfonic acid and in the copresence of vanadium oxide, etc. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound such as cyclohexanol can be produced by hydrating an olefin such as cyclohexane at 50-200 deg.C in the presence of an aromatic sulfonic acid such as an aqueous solution of p-toluenesulfonic acid and in the copresence of a vanadium oxide, vanadic acid or its salt such as V2O5, etc. The amount of the aromatic sulfonic acid is 0.01-10mol per 1mol of the olefin, and that of the vanadium oxide compound is 0.001-5wt% based on the aromatic sulfonic acid. The amount of water is 0.1-100mol per 1mol of the olefin. EFFECT:Corrosion is hardly observed even in conventional materials such as SUS-304, etc., and the catalytic activity of the aromatic sulfonic acid can be improved. |
