PURPOSE:To prevent a printing ribbon from being taken up during a correcting operation, by a system wherein a disk cam for lifting a ribbon is rotated forward at the time of printing and reversely at the time of correction. CONSTITUTION:With a key operation for printing carried out, the disk cam 12 is rotated forward, whereby a pin 18 is moved downward along the second cam groove 12c, and the printing ribbon 23 is lifted up by an am ount H1'. In the case of a correcting operation for a printed character, the disk cam 12 is rotated in the direction of arrow D, whereby the pin 18 is moved downward along the third cam groove 12d, and a correction ribbon 20 is lifted up by an amount H2', and is struck to correct the printed character. Accordingly, since the operations for taking up the printing and correction ribbons can be set according to the difference of the rotating direction, the printing ribbon is never taken up during the correcting operation.
