NEW MATERIAL:An antibiotic substance NK-0218 expressed by the formula and having the following physico-chemical properties; Colorless needlelike crys tal. Elementary analysis (%); C, 44.75; H, 5.58; O, 2.365; N, 25.98 (as C10H13O3 N5.H2O). Molecular formula; C10H13O3N5 (molecular weight; 251.24). Melting point; 197 deg.C. [alpha]D=-44.3 deg. (C=0.21, pyridine). Soluble in water, methanol, ethanol and dimethyl sulfoxide and insoluble in propanol, acetone, ethyl acetate, ether and benzene. Positive to Rydon-Smith reaction and 10% sulfuric acid reaction and negative to ninhydrin reaction and Sakaguchi reaction, etc. USE:An antimicrobial agent, antiviral agent and antitumor agent against Gram-pos itive bacteria. PREPARATION:A strain of the genus Bacillus e,g, Bacillus NK84-0218 (FERM No. BP-919), is cultivated, preferably at 20-45 deg.C at a slightly acidic-slightly alkaline pH for 1-4 days. |
