GATE FOR PRODUCING VERTICALLY SHORT STEEL INGOT

PURPOSE:To prevent the damage of a gate refractory board and to prevent the steel leakage from the base of a gate body by forming the surface contact part of the gate body to a small area limited to the front and pressing the gate body by using rear rollers and side rollers. CONSTITUTION:The surface contact part 6A of the gate body 6 having the gate refractory board 5 is limited to the front and the area thereof is decreased to increase the pressing force per unit area. The rear rollers 7 which roll on the base 2A of the casting mold in contact therewith are provided to the rear part of the gate body 6 to smoothly slide the gate body 6. The front side rollers 10 are provided atop the side part in the front part of the gate body 6 and the plural rear side rollers 11 are provided to the side part in the rear part to prevent the twist of the gate 4 and the damage of the board 5. Plural pressing mechanisms 12 are disposed between the gate body 6 and a tundish 1 in the transverse direction of the casting mold to press the gate body 6 downward. The stable casting is assured by such mechanism.
