PURPOSE:To produce UO2 powder having high activity and fluidity and low F content and suitable for the production of the fuel of nuclear reactor, by dry process, by introducing UF6 gas and water into a reactor and treating the produced UO2F2 with H2 gas and steam. CONSTITUTION:UF6 gas and water are introduced into a reactor to convert the UF6 to UO2F2. The produced UO2F2 is converted to UO2 by the treatment with H2 gas and steam. The process gives UO2 powder having high activity and fluidity and low residual F content and suitable as the fuel of nuclear reactor, which has been difficult to be produced by conventional dry process. The activity of the produced UO2 can be controlled. Since the powder has extremely high fluidity, the handling of the power in the following steps is facilitated and the granulation of the powder necessary in conventional method for the production of pellet for nuclear reactor fuel can be omitted.
