PURPOSE:To obtain a combustion flame stable at the time of ignition by inserting a pilot gas feed pipe into combustion assisting member made of sandy particles. CONSTITUTION:When a pilot burner is set to 'operation', a gaseous mixture of a fuel gas and air is supplied through an opening 4 of a pilot gas supply tube 5 to the combustion assisting member;. The combustion assisting member 1 is constituted of irregular polygonal particles. Since irregular clearance passages are formed on the entire surface of the combustion assisting member, the flow of the pilot gas is made uniform and the mixing of the fuel gas and air is promoted. The gaseous mixture which has reached the surface of the combustion assisting member is rectified by a conductive member (b), ignited by the discharge from a main gas feed tube 3 to form a flame on the surface of the combustion assisting member. The gaseous mixture which has been fed from a main gas feed tube 3 reaches the surface of the combustion assisting member, and is ignited by a pilot flame, thus excellent combustion is carried out over the entire outer surface of the combustion assisting member. However, since the pilot gas feed tube 5 is inserted within the combustion assisting member 1, an excellent pilot flame is constantly formed on the outer surface of the conductive member even when the main combustion is started or stopped.
