PURPOSE:To suppress the waste of hydrogen in the reducing smelting of various metals and enabling the rationalization and resource saving of metal melting industry, by treating the waste gas generated from metal smelting process by a specific method and utilizing the purified hydrogen for the reducing smelting process. CONSTITUTION:A gas generated from metal smelting process and containing hydrogen, hydrogen halide, nitrogen and/or argon is subjected to the absorptive separation process with activated carbon adsorbent to remove the hydrogen halide completely from the gas (the 1st step). The residual gas is subjected to the pressure-variation adsorptive separation process using a zeolite molecular sieve as an adsorbent to remove nitrogen or argon from the gas (the 2nd step). Since the unreacted hydrogen gas discharged from a metal smelting process can be recovered by the above two steps and utilized for the metal smelting, the waste of hydrogen in metal smelting is suppressed to enable the rationalization and resource saving of the metal smelting industry.
